Various aspects of the film series were discussed during this meeting. Most importantly, John took expert advice from the previous directors in choosing the perfect filming location for Beverly Hills Cop 3.

Eventually, John and his team decided to shoot the majority of the sequences of this movie, in and around the state of California. However, some portions of the film were captured in the state of Michigan as well.

Mainly because the director wanted to depict the backstory of the cop, and showcase the place where he used to live, before landing in L.A.P.D.

The principal photography for Beverly Hills Cop 3 commenced in the month of September 1993 and continued till the first month of the next year. The shooting schedule was comparatively longer than its prequels due to a number of issues that the filming crew faced during the course of the shooting.

The production members arranged a small-sized house, located on the outskirts of Detroit near 8 Mile. The same property was used to depict the family home Axel, which he inherited from his deceased grandfather.
