So, after Jack Arnold finished selecting the cast members, he asked the crew to start scouting for filming locations in America. Several potential shooting locations were then scouted, in and around the state of Florida and California.

As the overall setting in Florida matched the swampy and damp background of the Amazon rainforest, the director decided to shoot the majority of the sequences there. Whereas some pivotal sequences of the movie were later filmed in and around different locations in California as well.

The principal photography began in the summer of 1953 and continued for two months or so. Reportedly, the production members did run into minor issues, during the course of filming. But, later made up for the lost time, which resulted in the filming schedule to remain unchanged.

The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the group of scientists inside a well-equipped laboratory, was actually captured inside a real bio-research facility in California. The production members had to acquire special shooting permission from the board of the science lab, located near Hermosa Beach.

The sequence in the movie where one of the main actors is shown researching deadly aquatic animals was filmed inside Hermosa Beach Aquarium. 

Other pivotal sequences in California were captured near Malibu and Pacific Palisades. The sequence where the researchers are shown to arrive at the coast was actually filmed near Paradise Cove. This famous Cove in Malibu is situated at 28128 Pacific Coast Highway.

Then finally, production members moved to San Bernardino National Forest and captured some breathtaking outdoor sequences near Big Bear Lake and Big Bear Valley. After the shooting was completed in California, the filming crew moved to Florida and captured the remaining sequences of the movie.

The captivating underwater sequences shown in the film were captured in Wakulla Springs, Florida. The production members used special cameras to capture this underwater scene. Other important scenes depicting the terrain of the Amzonian forest were filmed in Silver Springs and Jacksonville in Florida.

The final sequence of the movie was captured inside Marineland of Florida, which is located at 9600 OceanShore Boulevard. Additional outdoor scenes of Creature from the Black Lagoon were captured in and around different places in Florida. The crew then returned to California and captured the remaining interior sequences inside Universal Studios.
