The basic premise of Faraway revolves around the character of Zeynep Altin, a middle-aged German woman, who lives with her family in Munich. The plot thickens when Zeynep decides to do away with her undervalued life in Munich and travels to Croatia for a fresh new start.

Faraway commercial performance has been outstanding. The audience of this phenomenal film enjoyed the overall storyline and applauded the performance of the female lead. Critics, too, were quite impressed with the stellar performance of Naomi Krauss. The positive critical response has definitely increased the expectation of the makers, who are now hoping to see this become a super-popular movie.

Where Was Faraway Filmed? Let’s Know This Unconventional Romantic Flick Closely!

The story of  Faraway is set in Germany and Croatia, specifically around the iconic locations of Munich and Brac. Thus, to keep things simple and provide the movie audience with an authentic experience, Vanessa Jopp decided to shoot her film on location.

However, Alex Kendall and Jane advised Jopp to shoot the entire film in Germany. But as Vanessa wanted to experiment with exotic shooting locations for this project, she convinced the screenwriters to change the script.

So, after the necessary changes were made, Vanessa formed a special team and asked the members to scout for locations for picturesque filming locations in Germany and Croatia. The team then searched for locations according to the description given by Vanessa and then submitted the list.

The director visited the potential shooting locations in person and eventually decided to shoot the majority of the film in and around the city of Munich. As Vanessa wanted to experiment by shooting in exotic locations, she also thought of shooting a few scenes in Croatia.

The principal photography commenced in November 2021 and continued for 4-5 weeks. The shooting was almost completed by the end of December of the same year. However, due to various undisclosed reasons, the final screening of Faraway eventually got delayed.

Munich | Germany

The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the character of Zeynep along with her family, was actually filmed on location. The production members used a medium-sized apartment which was located at a distance from the downtown area of Munich.

The sequences depicting the family home of the Zeynep, where she lived with her uncaring husband and children were captured inside the same property. Before capturing the interior sequences of the apartment, Vaness asked the production members to make changes to the decor of Zeynep’s home.

Other pivotal scenes of the movie were captured near the Victuals Market and Marienplatz. During shooting an important scene near this busy area, the production members ran into a major problem with the German police.

The standing issues, thankfully, were later resolved after the legal team of the production unit intervened and handled the situation. The production then finally traveled overseas to the next shooting location.

Croatia

Towards the final stages of the filming process, the production members moved to Croatia. The exotic outdoor sequences of the movie were then captured in Brac. This beautiful Island in the Adriatic Sea is the largest Island in Dalmatia. 

The filming crew took special shooting permission from the owner of a vintage boat and used it to capture the sequences depicting Zeynep’s voyage. Other pivotal outdoor shots were filmed on Zlatni Rat and Solta. The filming crew then wrapped the entire shooting process and returned to Germany.

The basic premise of Faraway revolves around the character of Zeynep Altin, a middle-aged German woman, who lives with her husband and children in Munich. At the very beginning of the film, the female lead appears to be sad, because of the ill-treatment she receives from her family.

But later in the story, Zeynep finally musters up the courage to do away with her old life in Munich and follow her life-long dream of traveling. The female lead then finally visits her ancestral home in Croatia, but get’s surprised to see an old friend living there.
