Girls Trip begins by introducing us to the female lead of the film, Ryan Pierce (played by Regina Hall) who is shown to plan the reunion of her long lost friends. In the film Ryan, is a lifestyle guru, who is nominated as the chief guest speaker at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Thus, she invites Sasha (played by Queen Latifah), a renowned journalist from Time Magazine, who is broke as hell. 

Lisa who’s a single mother, is one with a lame nursing job, and the third prominent member of the group. Everyone accepts Ryan’s invitation and arrives in New Orleans, with a hope to spend the best time of their lives. 

Soon after they are shown to be visiting the best places in town, exploring the night life of the city, letting the good times roll! But as the date of the main event approaches, the Girls Trip is almost spoiled! They end up getting into an argument amongst themselves, after finding out about their cheating boyfriends. 

However, the mood is revived after they remind themselves that the trip is about them, and them alone. Eventually they arrive at the Essence Music Festival and have a blast! Alrighty, about time for us to find out where was Girls Trip filmed. Where Was Girls Trip Filmed? Let’s Know This Comedy Flick Closely!!

Apart from the establishing scenes in the film Girls Trip, the movie was entirely shot in and around the state of Louisiana in America. The screenwriters of the film, Tracy Oliver and Kenya Barris were adamant on keeping the filming location the same as the real story the film was inspired from.

Director Malcolm D. Lee thus chose the iconic location of New Orleans in Louisiana as the prime destination for filming. The production unit commenced principal photography in August 2016 and finished it within 2 months! Almost all the happening locations in the city were featured in the film. However in this article we will discuss the most notable filming sites of the movie.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans has always been the perfect place to party! The lively atmosphere of the city, with an impeccable music scene, Michelin starred restaurants and the best clubs. The city comes to life at night! Director Lee wanted to capture this exact vibe and fervor of the city, thus featured almost all the places of interest in his film. 

The sequence where the “girls” are shown to spend their first day after their arrival in New Orleans, was filmed in The Roosevelt Hotel. This historic hotel, located at 130 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans was a major location in Ryan’s plan. The production unit had to acquire special permissions for filming inside the hotel. Which was easily given by the hotel administration considering the reputation of director Lee. A number of scenes inside the room and at the reception area were filmed.

However, at a later stage the production unit was shifted to another luxury property in the city, Hotel Monteleone. Located at 214 Royal St. New Orleans, this extravagant hotel is rumored to be haunted! But that didn’t stop the production from filming the casino scenes in the film. 

The sequence where Ryan and her friends are shown to go for a night out, were filmed at this location. The ambient noise and lighting issues halted the filming for some time. But special lighting and sound equipment were brought in and the shooting resumed. 

Finally the filming of the Essence Music Festival took place during the actual occurrence of the mega event. And naturally the production unit arrived at the New Orleans stadium to shoot the final sequence of the music festival.
