Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, Chicago, Illinois, USA

Since the show is set in Chicago, that is where most of the shooting of the series has also taken place. The story of Night Sky takes place in a town called Farnsworth. And if you search for a place like that in Chicago, you will come empty-handed. That is because there is no such place as it’s fictional.

Besides other outdoor locations, most of the filming took place at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. Sets were created to show the inside of the farmhouse. The most demanding of all was to create the inside of the shed that held the portal.

While post-production visual work had to be done, most of what we see has been done on the sets. The studio undertook principle photography for Night Sky right after Amazon ordered it for its first season. Thereafter moving to other locations to film outdoor and landscape-based scenes.

Blue Island, Illinois, USA

The crew then moved up north of Chicago to a location called Blue Island. The place is filled with touristy things to do and is heavily revered by the locals as well. According to sources, the city was established back in the 1800s and has grown in prominence ever since.

Jujuy Province, Argentina

As most of the series revolved around the portal that the Yorks have hidden in their shed, the other world scenery had to be shot somewhere else. While Chicago provided a lot, filming for the series had to be done in Jujuy Province in Argentina. 

The location does actually feel otherworldly and suits the theme of the show perfectly. Filming in Argentina was wrapped up quickly in line with covid protocols. If you’re planning a trip to Argentina anytime soon, then Jujuy Province should definitely be on your list!
