Where Was Office Space Filmed? Let’s Know This Comedy Drama Flick Closely!
Over the years, Office Space won a number of awards and collected several nominations. The critics widely appreciated Judge’s style of direction and storytelling. The premise resonated with the audience and the critics so much because Judge included comical events from his own life.
So, instead of writing a completely fictional story for this project, the director thought of including his own experiences, which eventually led to the huge success of the movie. It’s equally important to mention that another factor played a huge role in the overall success of this comedy movie.
Apart from writing a gripping storyline for this project, Judge also selected one of the best filming locations for this movie. At the starting stages of production Judge and his team looked for beautiful filming locations in America.
After scouting a number of ideal filming spots, Judge arrived at the final conclusion to shoot the majority of the outdoor scenes in and around Texas. However, after the main filming locations were selected, the director asked the crew to look for some other locations.
Because Judge thought it would be quite boring to shoot all pivotal scenes of Office Space in and around the state of Texas. So, in order to offer something different to the audience, the director asked the crew to look for additional filming locations.
Within a couple of weeks, the production members identified potential filming locations in Florida and then reported them back to the director. Judge checked the secondary filming locations in person and then asked the crew to prepare for principal photography.
The principal photography of Office Space in the first week of May 1998 continued for more than a month. By the final week of June, of the same year, the filming process of Office Space was over.
The production members didn’t face any issues while filming in Florida. But, while they were shooting the outdoor scenes in Texas, in the first phase of shooting, they were noticeably uncomfortable shooting in the hot weather.
However, the director took care of this problem by making the crew work in different shifts. So, none of the production members faced any health issues while capturing the outdoor scenes in Texas.
Thankfully, the shooting process of this comedy flick ended as per the estimated timeline. Let us now take a closer look at where was Office Space filmed.
Texas | USA
The opening scene of the film, where we see the character of Peter Gibbons working in an IT firm, was filmed in Texas. The production members used a commercial building to depict Peter’s workplace.
The building was transformed from inside and out to make it look like a giant American tech firm. Special banners were also mounted outside the building, which was specially brought in from California.
While the production members were turning around the exterior part of the office, the production designers were designing the interior area of Peter’s workplace. The specific commercial building located at 11209 Metric Blvd, Austin, was used to film all these scenes.
You’d be surprised to know that the building hasn’t been demolished since and has been used by a number of filmmakers later on. The iconic scene of the restaurant was filmed inside a local eatery located at 9739 Great Hills Trail, Austin.
Before commencing the final phase of shooting, the production members filmed a couple of outdoor scenes in Austin. These shots were mainly filmed near GoldWing Drive and LBJ Freeway.
After these shots were taken, the crew moved to the next filming location.

The final phase of filming was done in Florida. The sequences where the lead characters appear to be chilling on the beach, after fulfilling their plan were filmed in Key West, Florida Keys.

The basic premise of Office Space revolves around three dissatisfied individuals working together in a tech-based company located in Texas. At the beginning of the movie, the lead character expresses his life problems with other characters.
As the story progresses further, Peter’s pent-up resentment against his office boss and girlfriend begins to unsettle him. The lead actor reaches out to his co-workers but doesn’t find any sort of help or comfort.
