The story of Mac and Me is set in Houston, Texas. But you’d be shocked to know that none of the actual scenes of this movie were filmed in Houston or any other city in Texas. The principal photography of Mac and Me was done entirely in a different location.
But, before I reveal where was Mac and Me filmed, let’s discuss what all happened during the making of this family drama movie. So, in the starting days of this project, the director was quite excited as he was co-writing the screenplay with Steve Feke.
Because at one point, Stewart wasn’t sure that would be able to finish the project on time, and thus he was looking for a good screenplay writer. After he successfully convinced Steve Feke to join this project, he was finally able to concentrate on other aspects.
After the director and Steve wrote the screenplay, Stewart immediately started looking for potential filming locations. The production budget of this project was $13 million, and the director had to choose a shooting location that matched the budget.

The principal photography of Mac and Me commenced in the second week of June 1987 and continued for almost a month. The majority of the sequences during this time were filmed in Calabasas and Hacienda Heights, California.
