The entire format of Outlast is to survive the harsh and immoderate climate of Alaska. So the entire shooting of this series also takes place in Alaska too. However, during the early stages of production, the makers were hoping to shoot the entire pilot season of Outlast in Canada.

But, later when the production budget increased, the makers eventually decided to film the series in America. A special was then formed and asked to scout suitable filming locations across various north-western states of America.

Soon, a number of locations were then scouted by the team, according to the instruction which they received. The makers then went over the list of potential shooting locations and subsequently instructed the crew to begin shooting.

The principal photography of Outlast began in the last week of October last year and continued till the end of November 2022. During the course of shooting the production members ran into a number of problems from time to time.

The shooting permission was acquired in advance, however, the crew struggled to get the logistics delivered in time. As per reports, the transportation company couldn’t deliver the logistics in time, due to blizzard and snow-storm. 

But, later when the situation came under control, the production members were able to commence shooting. Filming was completed, closer to the original shooting schedule, which was initially planned by the makers.

Chichagof Island, Alaska

The total number of contestants on the show is divided into four teams, consisting of four members each. Now, each team is then given a task which they have to complete by the end of the day and later take refuge in a make-shift camp.

So, the shooting of all these activities mostly takes place around Chichagof Island. This Alaskan Island which is also known as Shee Kaax is located in the Alexander Archipelago. The production members located near the Neka River, and set up camps for the contestants.

Other important sequences of the show were also captured at various places located near the bank of Neka River. Special lighting and camera equipment had to be used to capture the outdoor sequences during the night.

In order to capture the sequence of the finale episode of Outlast the production members moved to a place, situated near Port Frederick. Outdoor sequences were then filmed around Neka Bay, after which the entire shooting process ended.
