Butler is all set to amaze his fans with yet another gripping action thriller flick, Plane, releasing on 13th Jan 2023 across America. The project was announced in 2016 initially, but due to some issues, the film eventually got delayed. Nevertheless, after Jean-Francois Richet was at the helm, he made sure to finish the project as soon as possible. The basic premise of Plane follows an engaging story of a commercial pilot, who rescues his passengers from a precarious situation.

The makers of Plane are counting on the film to collect over $200 million at the box office. The audiences and critics, on the other hand, are eagerly waiting to see Gerard in the lead role. After a stellar performance in his last Netflix original film, Last Seen Alive, the Scottish action hero has already increased excitement amongst fans.

Now, I know you would like me to give you a brief overview of this film, which I’ll definitely share in some time. But before that let’s explore Plane movie location so that you can take a closer look at this intense-action film.

Where Was Plane Filmed? Let’s Know This Action Flick Closely!

The premise of Plane is set in the Philippines, specifically on the island of Jolo. However, the shooting of this movie was done entirely in Puerto Rico. The makers arrived at this conclusion for a number of reasons, let’s discuss some of them.

So, as mentioned, the making of Plane was announced back in 2016, initially. But due to the mismanagement of the production company, the filming rights had to be sold and bought again, twice! The project was already running way behind the primary schedule, but after director Richet came on board, he thought of scouting the filming locations first.

The director reviewed the production budget and instructed a special team to look for potential shooting locations across Southeast Asia. But as the team couldn’t arrange the required shooting permission, Richet decided to shoot the entire film in and around the beautiful locations of Puerto Rico.

The principal photography for Plane began in the first week of August 2022 and continued for 8 weeks. There were no major incidents on set, which hindered the filming schedule for the most part. The production members did run into a problem while transporting the logistics but later maneuvered through it.

So, without further ado, let’s discuss where was Plane filmed in-depth, and find out more about the specific shooting locations.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Where Was Plane Filmed? Gerard Butler’s Upcoming Action Thriller Flick Of 2023!!

The picturesque Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico is selected by many filmmakers as the Plane movie shooting location to capture jaw-dropping sequences of the exotic beaches. So, Richet was planning on doing the same, thus he arrived in the capital city of Puerto Rico with his team.

Important to mention that, the majority of the outdoor sequences were filmed in and around the city of San Juan. Apart from the opening sequence, where we see the lead character flying the commercial airbus, almost all other exterior scenes were captured here.

Pivotal sequences depicting the emergency landing of the plane were filmed inside the Puerto Rico Convention Center, located at 100 Convention Blvd, San Juan. The filming crew had to be extra cautious while capturing the sequences at this place, as they were only allowed to shoot for 1 week.

Other important outdoor scenes depicting the Jolo island of the Philippines were filmed on Castillo San Cristobal and Castillo San Felipe del Morro. While filming the outdoor scenes showcasing the militant groups here, the production crew struggled to get the logistics transported. But after persisting for a long, the crew managed to airlift the logistics and drop it at the location of the shooting.

Filming in Puerto Rico lasted for one and a half months, after which the crew returned back to America and filmed the remaining interior sequences of the movie inside a studio in California. By the end of October 2022, the entire filming process was wrapped up, and the team began working on the promotion of the movie.
