The story of Sabrina is set in America and France. More specifically, the Larrabee estate shown in the film is actually set in the state of New York. But you’d be surprised to know that none of the sequences of this movie were actually filmed in France.

The makers of Sabrina decided to shoot all sequences of this movie in and around America. The filming locations were scouted by Billy Wilder and the crew. The production members looked around the states of Georgia and Texas at first.

But since they couldn’t find the perfect location for filming the outdoor scenes, they decided to scout in some other locations. After a couple of months, the director and his crew were finally able to identify a number of ideal filming locations in California and New York.

Shortly after the director asked the production members to commence shooting, the principal photography began. It’s important to mention that the majority of the outdoor sequences of Sabrina were actually captured in and around the state of New York.

Apart from the interior scenes, only a handful of outdoor shots were taken in California. The filming process lasted from the first week of September 1953 until the end of November of the same year.

The shooting of Sabrina began in the city of New York. The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the Larrabee Company Headquarters, was actually filmed in Manhattan.

The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of a commercial building located at 30 Broad Street, Manhattan, New York. But before filming the interior scenes of the actual office, certain changes had to be made.

The production members changed the overall look of the vacant offices according to the instructions given by the director. Then the scenes showcasing the American playboy inside his family office in New York were captured.

Other important outdoor scenes of Sabrina were captured in Long Island, New York. The sequence where the lead actor runs into an old friend while entering a train station was actually filmed outside Glen Cove, Long Island.

After filming these scenes, the production members moved to the next filming location.

California | USA

The second half of the movie was completely filmed in and around the state of California. The outdoor scenes of the film, depicting the lavish mansion of the Larrabee was actually shot in Los Angeles.

The filming crew used George Lewis Mansion, located at Benedict Canyon Drive, Bel Air, to capture the sequences depicting the exterior part of the Larrabee estate. A few other outdoor scenes were captured in and around this beautiful city, after which the production members moved to a studio.

The remaining interior scenes of the film were then captured inside Paramount Studios, located at 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood. Finally, the shooting process ended by the final week of November 1953.
