The scene where the female lead meets with other members of her family attending a funeral service were actually shot in Lafayette. Before moving to Kentucky, the production members filmed some other outdoor scenes in Opelousas.

The second half of the movie was shot in Kentucky entirely. The scenes depicting the stable of Penny’s champion stallion were shot inside a local farm situated near Churchill Downs. However, the final sequence of the movie was filmed at a different location.
The production members traveled to the city of Lexington to capture the final scene of the film. The ending sequence of the movie depicting the race was filmed using the Keeneland Racetrack.
This famous racetrack in Lexington is located at 4201 Versailles Road and is often used for hosting derby cups and other events.
