As the production budget of The Baker’s Son was pretty low, Jean thought of making use of the tax benefit offered by the Canadian government, and shooting his film in British Columbia. The director then conferred with other heads of the unit and finally asked the production members to scout for potential filming locations around the province of British Columbia.

A bunch of suitable shooting locations on the Island of Vancouver was then scouted. Mark visited the locations in person and then signaled the crew to commence filming.

The principal photography began in the last week of January 2021 and continued till the second week of March, of the same year. The production members intended to commence shooting in late 2020, however, due to the Covid-19 travel restriction the filming dates had to be pushed.

The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the character of Matt working inside the famous Duvall Boulangerie, was actually filmed on Vancouver Island. The coastal community of Cowichan Bay located on the east coast of Vancouver Island was used to shoot the majority of the outdoor sequences.

The scenes depicting the coastal town of Windward, located near the Island of Puget Sound in the movie, were all filmed in Cowichan Bay. The production members used a local eatery located near the market area and made it look like a special bakery.

Other important sequences of the film were captured near Chemainus and Brentwood Bay. The small yet famous village of Brentwood Bay, located near the Saanich Peninsula, is visited by a number of tourists each year.

So, in order to depict a town, where the tourists play a major role in sustaining the livelihood of the locals, the director chose this filming location in Canada. Some other additional sequences of the film were captured near the municipality area of Chemainus.
