Where Was The Gold FIlmed? Let’s Know This Crime Drama Series Closely!

As I’ve mentioned before, the story of The Gold is set in London. But, apart from the majority of the outdoor sequences which were filmed on location, some scenes were shot in Spain.

But none of the filming locations were selected, without visiting them in person first. Aneil Karia and other creative heads of the production wanted to showcase authentic locations to the audience. 

The actual places in London where all the events took place during 1983. But, due to a number of security reasons, the makers weren’t able to select the same locations. In fact, some of the places didn’t even look the same as they used to back in the 80s.

So, in order to work around this major issue, the makers of The Gold decided to closely follow the Brink robbery case, and make a list of locations available for shooting. Subsequently, when all the potential filming locations in London were selected, the filming crew traveled to Spain.

A handful of locations in and around this beautiful European country were selected for shooting a few outdoor sequences. The principal photography eventually began in the second week of April last year.

Apart from filming the outdoor scenes in London, the production members also had to shoot in Spain. Thus the filming process took nearly two and a half months to get completed. Plus, as this show was backed by a major production company, the filming crew was able to shoot the scenes without any problem.

London | UK

The actual location of the Heathrow International Trading Estate is Green Ln, Hounslow TW4 6HB, UK. But, you’d be quite surprised to know that the opening sequence of the show, where we see the character of Mickey operating inside a Brink’s warehouse in Heathrow, wasn’t actually filmed there.

The production members arranged a separate warehouse, which was located in the eastern part of London. The interior sequences of the warehouse, where we see the character of Mickey along with some other henchmen, taking part in illicit affairs, were filmed here.

The sequences of the other episodes showcasing the British Intelligence office and the Customs headquarters were also filmed at a different place than the real one. The production members turned around a commercial building located near Heathrow Airport and used it to film these scenes. 

Additional outdoor sequences of the show were also filmed near the Dorchester Prison. Special security clearance had to be acquired from the British government, before filming outside the notorious jail.

Spain

The production members eventually moved to Spain, during the final stages of shooting. The finale episode of the show was then filmed on the outskirts of a major Spanish city.

Filming in Spain didn’t last for long, as the production members only had to film a couple of scenes. The production members, at last, returned to England and filmed the remaining interior sequences of the show.

The basic premise of The Gold covers the historical heist, which took place in London back in 1983. At the very beginning of the show, the character of Mickey McAvoy steals gold from the Brink’s-Mat warehouse in Heathrow.

This alarming incident soon grabs the attention of British intelligence agencies. As the story progresses further, all government agencies of London collaborate together to catch Mickey and his accomplices.
