Where Was The Impossible Filmed? Let’s Know This Adventure Thriller Flick Closely!

The story of The Impossible is set in the city of Takua, Pa, Thailand. You’d be amazed to know that the director of this film decided to capture the majority of the scenes in Thailand. However, not all scenes of this movie were captured in this beautiful South-East Asian country.

Many important scenes of The Impossible were, in fact, filmed in Europe, specifically in and around Spain. At the beginning of this project, Bayona sat with his team and made this decision.

The decision to not capture all outdoor scenes in Thailand was mainly made because Bayona wanted to depict the backstories of the lead actors. Plus, the fact the director wanted to showcase authentic locations also weighed in while he was selecting the filming locations with his team.

So, after everything was decided by Bayona, a separate team was sent to Thailand, while the remaining members stayed back in Spain. Both teams looked for suitable shooting sites in each of these countries and then reported back to the director.

Bayona went over the list after a couple of weeks and then asked the crew to start the shooting process. The principal photography of The Impossible began in the third week of August 2010 and continued for almost a year.

The filming was done in two separate phases. The first phase of shooting commenced in Thailand and continued till the last week of October 2010. Whereas the final phase of filming commenced in Spain.

Important to mention that mainly, the interior scenes of The Impossible were shot in Spain, apart from a couple of outdoor scenes. The second phase of filming went on smoothly, however, the production members faced a number of challenges while filming in Thailand.

The temperate weather of Thailand made the situation unbearable and, to a large extent, very discomforting for the cast members. However, the team still managed to pull through somehow and finish shooting within the schedule.

Let us now discuss in detail where was The Impossible filmed. After acquainting you with the filming locations, I’ll also give you an overview of this movie.
