The makers of this series, can be seen bringing together a group of single men and women on a luxurious cruise line, who are looking to find love! The winning couple of this reality show, is to receive a handsome winning amount and an all expense paid trip to the Bahamas!

The Real Love Boat airs every wednesday night on CBS network! Sadly, the show has not maintained the standards of the original show that went on for 9 successful seasons. However, it would be too soon to the series hard heartedly. As it has telecasted only 3 episodes as of today!

Plot Of The Real Love Boat | What’s It About

At the very beginning of the series 14 contestants are called to the coast of Florida. Where they witness the majestic and luxurious cruise ship the Regal Princess for the first time. The contestants are then invited on board, to set asail on the vast and gorgeous Mediterranean Sea.

The love contest soon begins, after the contestants are given the opportunity to choose pairs and perform fun compatibility tasks! Sadly, the bottom 3 pairs are then asked to appear for the elimination round. Failing which,  forces them to walk out of the show, in the first episode.

Midway through episode 2 and 3 the ship anchors in different ports as the contestants are then directed to explore the beauty of the exotic locations. The camera crew closely follows each of the pairs, and records their conversations and plans, to bring out a realistic touch to the show.

Finally by the end of episode 3 a total of 4 contestants get eliminated. The remaining 5 pairs await other fun challenges, which will ultimately test their “love” and propel them towards the trophy and the winning amount!

So, majority of the filming of The Real Love Boat, takes place on the Regal Princess luxury cruise ship in episodes 1 & 2. Thus it’s only fair that I give you a short tour of the extravagant ship first, before taking you to the exotic filming destination of episode 3, Port of Gibraltar.

The executive directors and other production heads pre-arranged all the logistics on board that were required to film the reality series. The actual captain of the ship, Paolo Arrigo along with other significant crew members of the ship, played an important role in the series. 

As they can be seen steering the ship and the show, by throwing in new challenges to the contestants. And sometimes taking part in it as well. The production unit had to train these non actors for quite some time, before commencing to shoot the episodes.

Regal Princess | Princess Cruises

The Royal-class cruise ship, the Regal Princess, was ordered from Fincantieri in 2010. It is operated by Princess Cruises and is sister to The Royal Princess cruise ship. This humongous ship measures about 330 meters in length and has a maximum speed of 22 knots to sail through the vast Mediterranean Sea.

Major areas of entertainment in this cruise ship are the open pool decks, the minutely curated lounges with some of the finest structures and artifacts used for decor. And the atrium which adds to the all over grandeur of the ship.

Now apart from giving the guests on board a bang for their hard earned buck, these areas were used by the production unit as well. Ofcourse, the privacy of the other passengers were maintained while filming the exterior and interior shots! 

The special tasks shown in episode 1 & 2 were filmed in and around the pool deck area and the atrium. After which the winning couples were given the opportunity to relax, unwind and find “real love” (if you know what I mean) in one of the luxury suits on the cruise. Thank dear God it wasn’t filmed!

Port Of Gibraltar

After the completion of episode 1 & 2 the production unit arranged a special date for the contestants at the Port of Gibraltar. Where they are faced with a surprise elimination challenge, even before properly enjoying the beautiful views of this idyllic location.

The outdoor shots of the romantic date were filmed near St. Michael’s cave. Special dinner and music was arranged for the couples. And shooting for the elimination challenge took place in Ape’s Den, which is minutes away from the Port of Gibraltar.

Now here are some beautiful places in Gibraltar such as, Upper Rock Nature Reserve, The Great Siege Tunnels, Mediterranean Steps and last but not the least the Main Street. That you should look into, if you plan to go cruising with you friends or family, anytime soon.
