Where Was The Unforgivable Filmed? All The Locations You Need To Know About!

After years of delays in making, and then filming delays due to covid restrictions, The Unforgivable finally came out on November 21, 2021. The movie was received fairly well by the audience and critics alike. 

Now, where was The Unforgivable filmed? Let’s find out where in Canada the filming for the movie takes place.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The movie takes place in Seattle, but the filming for it has been done in Canada. Vancouver serves as a major location where filming has taken place. Throughout the movie, we see the Vancouver urban landscape being used as the stand-in for Seattle, and dare we say, it is a job well done! 

Some of the important locations in the movie are the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, the University of British Columbia as well as Queen Elizabeth Park. The outdoor shots have been filmed at the Bloedel Floral Conservatory which is situated in the middle of the park. People familiar with the area will be able to identify it the best!

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Some shots of The Unforgivable were also filmed in the little town of Surrey in British Colombia. More specifically, Surrey City Hall was used for the filming. The scenes where Ruth is supposed to meet with the adoptive parents of Katie are the main ones that were filmed here.

Canadian Motion Picture Park Studios, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

As The Unforgivable was picked up by Netflix, it was decided that the movie would be filmed in the new Netflix studios. So the Canadian Motion Picture Studios in Burnaby, BC, were used. Interestingly, The Unforgivable became the first movie to have been filmed there.

While there is little to no CGI involved in the movie, the indoor scenes have been filmed inside the studio. The music score was composed by the legend Hans Zimmer himself, which made mixing the audio a major step in the movie. The studio played a major part in getting it right.

Seattle, Washington, USA

Some parts of The Unforgivable have also been shot in Seattle. These scenes are mostly the opening shots of the movie. As Ruth is transferred from one prison to the other, the backdrop that has been used is Seattle. More specifically, highway 99 tunnel entrance, Seattle.

Another shot of the prison right when Ruth is released has been shot in Seattle too. According to sources, it is the Seattle Public Library in central downtown that has been used for the purpose. The windy city has the perfect cold and somber backdrop for such a serious and heartbreaking scene in the movie!
