However, before deciding on the filming location for this project, Joe was busy acquiring the shooting rights from the novelist. After the filming rights were taken from A.J., Wright arranged a special meeting with the main screenplay writer of his team.

After several rounds of meetings, the creative heads decided to shoot all sequences of The Woman in the Window in and around the city of New York, and soon a special team was formed by the director.

The production members were then asked to scout filming locations in and around New York City. You’d be surprised to know that, at first, the filming crew struggled to find ideal shooting spots in this iconic city.

However, when Joe intervened and took the matter into his own hands, the issue was quickly resolved. Since the director had scouted the locations in person, he asked the filming crew to commence filming as soon as the scouting process was over.

The principal photography of The Woman in the Window commenced in the starting months of 2019 and was completed within a short period of time. However, the release date of this movie was hugely impacted due to the inefficiency of the team members during the post-production process.

The original release date was changed from October 2019 to May 2020. However, the onset of Covid-19 further postponed the release of The Woman in the Window. Finally, in the second week of May 2021, The Woman in the Window was digitally released on Netflix.

The opening scene of the movie, where we see the female lead walking out of her house, was filmed near 121 St, New York. The production members took special shooting permission from the owner of a residential property located at 104 West 121st Street, New York, and captured the exterior shots of Anna’s home.

In fact, the interior sequences of Anna’s home were also filmed inside the same property after the production member made minor changes to the overall decor. 

The scenes depicting Alistair’s house were also filmed around the same area in New York. The filming crew used a medium-sized house located at 101 West 21st Street to shoot the exterior shots of Allistair’s home.

After these sequences were shot, additional outdoor scenes were filmed in and around the city of New York, after which the production members moved to the next filming location.

The remaining portion of the movie was filmed in the city of Long Island. All interior scenes of The Woman in the Window were shot inside Gold Coast Studios, located at 700 Hicksville Rd, Bethpage, Long Island.
