The story of Warlock is set in California, specifically in and around the city of Los Angeles. But you’d be surprised to know that only a handful of sequences were filmed in California. Several outdoor shots of this award-winning movie were filmed in different locations in America.
During the initial phase of production, Steve Miner and a couple of other production heads scouted the primary filming locations in California. However, the director still wasn’t sure about the other filming locations.
So, after the primary filming locations were finalized, Miner asked the production members to look for other shooting locations. The crew later arrived in Massachusetts and Utah to find the remaining locations.
The principal photography of Warlock commenced in the first week of February 1988 and continued till the second week of May of the same year. The entire filming process lasted for 3 months or so, and during this time, the majority of the scenes were filmed in California.
The remaining outdoor scenes of the movie were shot in Massachusetts and Utah. The production members were able to complete the shooting process within the estimated timeline. But while the crew was shooting in California, they faced some issues on set.

Other important outdoor scenes in Massachusetts were filmed in and around the city of Boston. After these shots were captured, the production members moved to California.

The second phase of shooting was done in California. As I mentioned earlier, the majority of the outdoor shots of Warlock were filmed in and around this beautiful state. The production members filmed the dinner scene in the movie near Hermosa Beach.
A couple of other iconic scenes were filmed around this popular California beach. Sequences from the final quarter of the movie were filmed in the city of Los Angeles. While shooting in this city, the production members ran into some problems with the local authority and transportation department.
But, the matter was solved after Steve intervened and made a separate team to only focus on getting the logistics delivered on time, along with the required permits.
The shooting process continued till the second week of May 1988, after all the scenes were shot, the production members started working on the promotion of the movie.

The story of Warlock is centered around an evil sorcerer and an ancient witch hunter who breaks the continuum of space and time. At the beginning of the film, the evil warlock summons Satan to overpower the world but gets almost killed by Giles Redferne.
As the story progresses further, Satan saves his disciple and uses his mystical power to send the warlock from the medieval ages to the 20th century. Shortly after, the antagonist arrives in the modern city of Los Angeles, he devises a devious plan and looks for followers of the dark lord.
