Where Was Wednesday Filmed? Let’s Know This Paranormal Series Closely!
The creators of Wednesday arranged for a big production company to back the project. Thus, when Tim Burton was approached to join as a director, he was given full liberty in choosing shooting locations. Tim soon started exploring idyllic international locations, without being constrained by the filming budget. The medieval country of Romania was selected as the perfect potential shooting site, that could portray the mysterious and historic backdrop required for the show.
Furthermore, after scouting for some more places, the production unit reached the final conclusion to shoot Wednesday in and around the capital of Romania in Bucharest, majorly. And the remaining sequences in the medieval region of Transylvania.
The principal photography began in early September 2021 and took almost 6 months to complete. The crew had a lot to cover during the entire course of filming, with respect to the construction of sets and arranging other logistics.

Bucharest, Romania
The production unit traveled overseas to the beautiful country of Romania, to shoot the first half of the pilot season of Wednesday. The first four episodes were filmed in and around the capital city of Romania, Bucharest. Specifically, the Southern Carpathian town of Busteni was used to film the majority of the outdoor sequences.
The production unit took special permission from the administrative department of the Politehnica University of Bucharest to film inside the premises. This university was used to depict the sequences of the fictional Nevermore Academy shown in the series. The unit filmed in some other locations as well, such as Montero House, Sinaia railway station and the Botanical Garden of Bucharest and then moved to the other part of Busteni to film the remaining scenes.
Throughout the filming schedule, the Cantacuzino Castle located in the Zamora district was used to portray the “Addams family home”. The unit took several outdoor and interior shots of the castle over the period of 3 weeks.
Other Filming Locations | Romania
To shoot a few other pivotal sequences of the Addams family home, the unit decided to shoot at a different castle. The Monteoru House and the Olga Greceanu Mansion were used to capture the remaining scenes of Wednesday’s parents’ home.
The crew then moved to the renowned Buftea Studios to shoot the scenes of the fictional town of Jericho. The crew constructed the entire make-believe town inside the studio, which took 1 month to complete. Then, the unit moved to Transylvania and filmed the sequences of episodes 7 & 8. Filming was completed by the end of March 2022 after which the unit returned to America and began preparing for the promotion of the series.

The backstory of Gomez and Morticia’s teenage daughter is established in the first few episodes. Wednesday’s growing interest in occult science and paranormal activities motivates her parents to admit her to the Nevermore Academy.
Midway through the pilot season, the female lead explores different aspects of the paranormal world, while studying in the academy. She also makes a bunch of other friends, who have similar interests in gothic rituals. These friends are shown to provoke Wednesday to commit a horrible mistake.
Through episodes 7 & 8 Wednesday gets to find out about the true identity of her parents, which leaves her dumbfounded.
