The sequences in the film depicting the interior area of Shermer High School were filmed inside Maine North High School, located at 9511 Harrison St, Des Plaines. The production members took special filming permission from the administration of this public school.

The sequences in the movie where the goofy students spend their time in detention inside a library were filmed inside Maine North High School. A couple of other outdoor shots of this public school were also captured to depict the exterior part of Shermer High.

Northbrook Illinois | USA

The final phase of filming took place in Northbrook. During the course of shooting, the director thought of filming an important portion of the movie in a different school. 

Thus the production members had to travel to Northbrook and capture the final scene of The Breakfast Club in Glenbrook North High School. After these sequences were captured, the filming crew moved to Chicago and captured the remaining interior shots.
