The principal photography for Cry Macho began in the summer of 2021 and was completed within 6 weeks. Other pivotal outdoor sequences were shot in different parts of Polvadera. The production members captured a couple of exterior shots near the western bank of the Rio Grande and then moved to the next filming location in New Mexico.

The remaining parts of the movie were filmed in Belen. This lively city is the second most populous city in Valencia County and is often regarded as the “Hub City” by locals. Pivotal outdoor scenes were captured around the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area in Belen.
As mentioned earlier, the filming crew arranged for special filming permission from the authorities of the Conservation in advance. Thus, after reaching the shooting location, the production members readily began filming. Special lighting equipment was used to capture the scenes during the night.
The production members then used a small-sized house, located near the Harvey House Museum in Belen, to showcase the family home of the supporting actor. No major changes were made to the property except for changing the paint of the house.
The crew then captured several other outdoor sequences in different parts of Belen, after which they returned to California. A renowned and well-equipped studio located in Los Angeles was used to film the remaining interior sequences of the movie. The entire filming process lasted till the end of July 2021, the filming crew then began working on post-production.
