Where Was Don't Blame Karma Filmed? A Must-Watch Mexican Rom-Com!

The Netflix original, Don’t Blame Karma’s filming began in July 2021. The production unit wrapped up the film by the end of August 2021. So, practically they filmed the movie in just a month. However, they started filming in Yucatan and shot in Hacienda Temozon, a Luxury Collection Hotel at Km 182 Carretera Merida-Uxmal in Temozon Sur. They also shot in a port city named Progreso, in Yucatan which is situated in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yucatan is considered to be the safest state in Mexico. Over a period of time, several Hollywood and filmmakers around the globe have shot here. A few remarkable movies and TV shows that were filmed here in Yucatan are Christian Bale’s 2017 movie Song to Song, Johnny Depp’s classic drama Before Night Falls, Lydia Tanaglia’s documentary Tower: The Last Magnificent, the drama series Sortilego and the Spanish TV series Apuesta Por un Amor.

All major sequences for the Don’t Blame Karma were filmed in Yucatan, which is one of the 31 states that comprise Mexico’s federal entities. The production unit first camped in the city of Merida, where a number of important scenes were shot. The cast and crew filmed in a live music bar called La Negrita Cantina, at Calle 62 Esquina, which is located in the famous district of Centro. Another reason for shooting in Merida was because it is the capital of Yucatan and happens to be the largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula. A couple of sequences were also shot in the town of Celestun, specifically in Playa de Celestun.

The city of Merida is widely known for its cultural heritage. This was the first and only city that has received the title of American Capital of Culture twice. Some of the oldest cathedrals in the world are situated here in this city. The Cathedral of Merida was built in the late 16th century. The stones that were used for building it were brought from nearby Mayan ruins.

Merida is often called the city of gastronomy. Merida has been declared the best city to live in due to its high quality of life by the UN Habitat’s City Prosperity Index. Karolinska Institute of Sweden officially recognized the city as an International Safe Community for its top-notch public security.

Merida is not only the capital city of Yucatan but is also the cultural and financial capital. For a number of years several science competitions and international events were held in Merida, like FITA Archery World Cup Finals, The International Cosmic Ray Conference, a Physics Olympiad, and many more.

Let us give you another reason to visit the capital city of Yucatan. It’s the food. Food in Merida is quite unique, it’s not exactly what people generally think of as Mexican food. The food included influences from the local Mayan cuisine, Caribbean, European as well as Middle Eastern foods. Different tropical fruits like plum, tamarind, coconut, pineapple, and mamey are frequently used in Merida cuisine.

Another major attraction in Merida are the museums, which you have to visit no matter what. Some of the renowned museums in the city are Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, Yucatán’s Mayan Museum, Museo de Antropología e Historia “Palacio Cantón”, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Ateneo de Yucatán (MACAY).
