However, the remaining sequences of the movie were filmed in and around the state of California. The director of this film, Dennis Dugan, refrained from filming all sequences in Hawaii, mainly to cut down the production budget.
So, after working on the script alongside other screenwriters of this project, Dennis and his team scouted around the state of California. A number of potential filming locations were scouted in and around the city of Los Angeles and the Beverly Hills area.
After several weeks the production members were able to identify suitable filming locations in California. However, the final decision was made by Dennis after he checked the locations in person for the second time.
Shortly after, the production members visited the beautiful and exotic locations of Hawaii. Since the director was acquainted with the place, he helped the production members to pick the shooting spots in no time.
The principal photography commenced in the first week of March 2010 and continued till the end of May of the same year. While the production members were filming the outdoor scenes in Hawaii, they ran into minor issues.

However, the makers were able to de-escalate the issue after arranging a special meeting with the owners of the resort. Filming resumed shortly after the matter was resolved. The filming crew captured the remaining footage and then moved to Kauai, Hawaii.
