Due to some reason, the theatrical release took place on March 3, 2017, almost 2 years after its production. After its release, the movie became a part of the controversy. A theologian claimed that the depiction of the God, the Father, and the Holy Spirit was “profoundly unbiblical”. But even this controversy couldn’t affect the success of the movie.

British Columbia, Canada

The province of British Columbia served as a perfect location for filming many crucial sequences of The Shack. Guess what? The makers also got tax rebates for filming in the residential and commercial areas of British Columbia.

The accurate filming locations within British Columbia were Vancouver, Stawamus Chief Park, Cultus Lake, and Sayres Lake. Although these locations had suitable backdrops, a few lake sequences were shot using a water tank. And the hills were added in the background with the help of CGI.

These parks and lakes were more like landscapes. So, the sequences where you saw the characters trekking were not shot on the top of mountains. They were the slopes of Stawamus Chief Park. Whereas, one of the opening sequences where you saw a snow-covered mountain was shot at Mount Baker, located a few miles away from Cultus Lake.

Oregon, The USA

After filming some sequences in Canada, the production team traveled to Oregon to shoot some majestic sequences. Within Oregon, the primary locations were Wallowa State Park and the famous Multnomah Falls. However not all the sequences of the fall were shot here, the makers used some stock footage as well to make the sequences look charming.

The overall experience of the cast and crew members was amazing here. They felt like shooting in the lap of nature and this happened to them for the first time. Many of the cast members explored some famous eateries in Oregon.

Chicago, Illinois, The USA

The last location covered by the production unit was Chicago. The woodland, shack, and campsite sequences were shot in and around Chicago. Shooting in Chicago was not among the decided locations. The makers chose to shoot some sequences here to add an authentic look to the movie. Emily In Paris was also shot here for the same reason.

If you happen to visit Chicago in the coming days, you must try Chicago-style hot dogs, pizza, and Maxwell Street Polish sausages. Apart from this, you can also explore the classic architecture of the city like the Sears Tower and museums.

Directed by Stuart Hazeldine, The Shack is based on a novel of the same name written by Willaim P. Young.

Mack is the protagonist of the movie who has a disturbed childhood because of his abusive father. Now, he has a wife and three children: Kate, Josh, and Missy. Suddenly the peaceful life of Mack turns upside down when Missy disappears while saving Kate and Josh. After days of investigation, the police conclude that Missy has been attacked by a serial killer.

One day, Mack receives a letter asking him to meet at the shack. He assumes it to be an opportunity to meet the killer, drives to the shack, and almost collides with a truck but gets saved. Upon reaching there, he finds a mysterious figure who takes him to the trio of strangers. As the trio reveals its identity, Mack learns that God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus have come to help him. They advise Mack to overcome his sufferings and lead life happily. Amidst all this, Mack’s father also appears and apologizes for his bad behavior.

Finally, Mack finds himself filled with positivity and thinks about his family. When he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a hospital and narrates the entire incident to his wife. The film ends with Mack standing in front of the church and thinking about whether he actually met the trio or not.
