Midway through the series, detective Leroy appears to turn rogue. The complicated and psychologically exhausting cases had taken a toll on Leroy’s psyche. As he decides to kill one of the witnesses, during an ongoing investigation.

Towards the completion of the series, in season 4 detective Ambrose eventually catches Leroy after gathering substantial evidence against him. The series finally ends as Leroy is brought to justice, and detective Ambrose continues his investigation, hunting for other disguised criminals.

Throughout the series the actors gave their best performance on screen, which not only made the characters look alive. But also added to the overall gripping feel of the show!

Where Was The Sinner Filmed? Let’s Know This Crime Series Closely!!

Director Antonio Campos, along with other makers of the show, The Sinner began scouting for a perfect filming location, right after procuring the filming rights from the novelist. The production unit decided to shoot in and around the city of New York. 

The same place that the events in the series is shown to take place in! Although during the course of filming the 3^rd. Season, the production crew also traveled to Canada and South Carolina to shoot a couple of episodes there.

The principal photography for season 1 began in May 2017 and was completed in 3 months. Likewise, every other season that followed was filmed during the summer, and took more or less 3-4 months to complete! New York, USA

The production crew shot the entire first season of The Sinner in the city of New York! Congers, a sparsely populated hamlet was selected to be the first location where the murder of Dr. Frankie was filmed. The production crew took exterior shots of a picnic spot nearby Congers, which featured as the scene of crime in the first episode.

Later the crew moved to Sloatsburg, in the town of Ramapo in Rockwell County, to shoot the interior and outdoor scenes of a house that portrayed JD’s humble abode! Finally towards the end of season 1, the filming crew reached Brooklyn to film scenes of the police department. 

And then traveled to the city of Yonkers, located on the banks of Hudson River to capture shots which depicted Carl’s Taproom in the show. Subsequently in season 2 and 4 the production unit filmed in the neighboring areas of New York city.

South Carolina, USA

The first half of season 3 was filmed in the state of South Carolina. The Dorchester County Detention Center was used to film the interrogation scenes. Special permission had to be taken from the Jail authorities for filming the interior scenes. A safety clearance certificate was issued, which clearly barred the production unit from filming after 6 pm. Other major outdoor scenes were filmed in the city of Charleston.

Nova Scotia, Canada

After completing the filming for the first half of season 3, the crew flew to Canada, to film the remaining episodes of the season. The city of Halifax in the province of Nova Scotia was selected and used to shoot the scenes where detective Leroy is shown to commit crimes!
