Where Was The Vanished Filmed? Let’s Know This Action Thriller Flick Closely!
Apart from an intriguing screenplay, filming locations also play a vital role in making a bone-chilling thriller movie. Luckily, Peter was well aware of the same fact. Thus after he finished perfecting the script, he began looking for ideal shooting locations.
The director visited several potential filming locations around the East coast and southern states of America, in person. Peter also asked the production members to scout for swampy and shabby-looking places near the West coast of America as well.
After several weeks, the director arranged a meeting with other heads of the unit and finally decided to shoot the entire film in and around the southern state of Alabama. Important to mention that, the majority of the sequences were captured near the sparsely populated area of Tuscaloosa.
While a few minor sequences of the movie were captured in other locations in Alabama. The principal photography began in the last week of October 2019 and continued till the end of November, of the same year.
Thankfully, the shooting was completed, way before the onset of Covid-19, which as we know brought the entire world, let alone major production companies to a standstill. However, the filming schedule of The Vanished remained as planned by the makers.

The opening scene of the film, where we see the characters of Wendy and Paul, gearing up for an exciting camping trip with their daughter, was filmed in Tuscaloosa. This beautiful city is located in the west-central region of Alabama and is home to the Crimson Tide football team.
So, in order to shoot the opening scene where Paul is shown fixing his motor van for the camping trip, it was filmed near Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. In fact, the scenes depicting the small home of Wendy and Paul were also filmed near the same area.
The production members took special permission from the owners of the property before, making changes to the exterior structure of the house. Other pivotal sequences of the movie were then captured near Capitol Park and Tuscaloosa RiverWalk.
The breathtaking sequences of the movie where Wendy and Paul actually set up their camps for the trip were filmed near Lake Nicol. Special lighting equipment had to be used to shoot this outdoor sequence during dusk.
Filming in Tuscaloosa continued for three weeks or so, after which the production members moved to another major city in Alabama and filmed the remaining scenes.

As the story progresses further, Wendy and Paul, along with their daughter, Taylor arrive at the camping ground and have a gala time together. But, while checking the camping equipment, Paul realizes that Taylor has gone missing. The couple immediately reports the issue to the cops, but after getting no positive response, they decide to form their own search party.
