The Plot Of Vampire Diaries | What Is The Show About?
Before we move on to see where was Vampire Diaries filmed, let’s take a small refresher on what the show is about. We don’t think we have to, because the show was so popular, but there is no harm in doing so either. Vampire Diaries is set in a small little town called Mystic Falls in Virginia.
The town has a rich history filled with supernatural stuff. We’re talking vampires, werewolves, hunters, ghosts, witches, you name it! With such a rich history it’s only natural the secret must not get out. So the founding families of the town do their utmost best to protect these secrets.
Following the series, we have the lead character Elena Gilbert. A high school student who has just lost her parents in a car accident. She is smitten in a class by a new entrant named Stephan Salvatore. As the two hit it off, it’s slowly revealed that Stephan is actually a 150-year-old vampire.
He also has an anti-villain brother named Damon Salvatore, and the two share a rocky relationship at the start. As things start to unravel and the mysteries of the town are unraveled, we see things are not as they seem. The two brothers start off by hating each other, but soon realize blood is thicker than water as external enemies come into play.
Where Was Vampire Diaries Filmed? All The Locations You Need To Know About!
After first coming out in 2009, Vampire Diaries stayed for almost a decade with us. Receiving positive reception from audiences and critics alike Vampire Diaries maintained its charm. The show went on to have 171 episodes and a spin-off series named The Originals.
So is Mystic Falls actually in Virginia? Sorry, but no, it’s a fictional town. But the places it has been filmed are real! Check out where was Vampire Diaries filmed here!
Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada
Vancouver should technically hold the most credit for Vampire Diaries. That is because the pilot of the show was filmed there. It is after the success of the pilot that the show was picked up and taken into full-fledged production.
One of the prominent locations in Vancouver is the Foxglove Farm that features in the pilot episode. The boarding lodge serves as a stand-in for the Salvatore residence. While there are only a few scenes of it in the opening episode, the Salvatore residence is an important part of the show.
Areas In and Around Covington, Georgia, USA
After the green light from the network producers, filming for Vampire Diaries shifted completely to Covington, Georgia. The whole town has been used throughout the filming of the series. So what we see in the series as Mystic Falls, is actually Covington.
116 Clark Street, Covington.
The Mystic Grill is actually a place that you can visit in Covington. After the success of the show, the set was converted into an actual grill. So if you are planning a trip to Covington and want to visit the grill to grab a bit to eat you need to go to 116 Clark Street, Covington.
124 Clark Street, SW Covington Georgia
Besides the grill, another interesting place that features often in the show is the iconic clock tower. The clock tower of Mystic Falls is where the people from the town have their big gatherings and festivities. The place is real and is located in the downtown area of Covington.
598 Abernathy Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia
While the Salvatore residence in the pilot episode was located in Vancouver, another estate in Atlanta held the job for the rest of the show. Moving a little out of Covington, Glenridge Hall, situated at 598 Abernathy Road was used as the Salvatore residence. The house has a rustic feeling attached to it that screams ‘hundreds of years old.’
2104 Floyd Street, NE Covington Georgia.
Just like the Salvatore house is important, so is the Gilbert residence. The place where Elene lived with her aunt and her brother. The interiors have been filmed inside a studio, but the exterior shots are of a private residential house. So while you may not be able to go inside and see Elena’s room (that’s creepy by the way), you can still take pictures from the outside. It’s located on Floyd Street in NE Covington.
So, there you have it, folks! All you need to know about where was Vampire Diaries filmed! The show isn’t a run-of-the-mill vampire show, but a show about the mysteries of a small town. If you haven’t watched it till now, take this as your sign to watch it!
