But after the show was announced in the summer of 2021, David spent the majority of his time auditioning for cast members.

After reviewing the shooting budget, other creative heads of the unit pitched in and started scouting for ideal filming locations. As the production budget was pretty low, the makers thought of filming the entire series in Canada.

However, due to a number of undisclosed reasons, the former decision had to be changed, and the creative heads decided to shoot the entire series in America. The best possible solution for the makers was to find a location that was inexpensive and picturesque at the same time.

After scouting through a number of places in America, the team finally decided to shoot the first season of The Big Door Prize in and around Georgia. The majority of the outdoor sequences were specifically shot in various places of Atlanta.

The principal photography commenced in the second week of December 2021 and continued for 8 weeks. The production members were able to complete the shooting within the estimated timeline.

The show’s opening sequence, where we see the character of Dusty returning to his home in Deerfield town from school, was actually filmed in Atlanta. The production members arranged a medium-sized home on the city’s outskirts.

Other sequences, where we see other family members of Dusty, were also filmed inside the same property even though the production members didn’t make any major changes to the overall decor of the house.

Special lighting equipment was installed in various places of the house to capture the interior sequences from different angles. The scenes depicting Dusty’s neighborhood were also filmed around the same property.

Other important outdoor sequences depicting Dusty’s workplace were shot inside a public school. As this public school in Atlanta was located near the downtown area, the production members were able to transport the logistics pretty easily.

Finally, the sequence where the lead character of the show encounters the strange-looking portal inside a grocery store was actually filmed inside a real convenience store. The production members took special shooting permission from the owner of the store and asked him to close it for the public till the time sequences were being filmed.

Then finally, after 7-8 weeks from the second week of December 2021, the filming process of The Big Door Prize ended. The production members returned to California and began working on the promotion of the show.

In fact, according to recent reports, the filming of the second season of The Big Door Prize has already been completed after it commenced earlier this year.

The basic premise of The Big Door Prize revolves around the character of Dusty Hubbard, a middle-aged American schoolteacher, and his family members. At the very beginning of the show, the character Dusty returns to his home in Deerfield after finishing his work in school.

As the story progresses further, the lead actor’s life, which appeared mundane on the surface, begins to change. After visiting a local store to pick up some groceries, the lead character discovers a strange portal inside the store. When Dusty returns back home, his life gets changed forever.
