Where Was Blue Velvet Filmed? Let’s Know This Neo-Noir Mystery Flick Closely!

American filmmaker and screenplay writer David Lynch had previously made a number of movies like Eraserhead and Dune before working on this project. But unfortunately, the overall storyline of the aforementioned movies was considerably different or highly controversial for some.

However, David was absolutely unphased about either of those opinions, as he was highly motivated towards making films that aroused intellect. In other words, David Lynch wasn’t shy of making unconventional movies at the cost of it being less successful commercially.

It would have certainly been an ideal scenario if wealthy producers could show the same amount of enthusiasm while backing these kinds of films. But, in reality, David had a hard time finding producers for his projects who were willing to finance them without giving unsolicited advice.

So, after Lynch was done writing the screenplay for Blue Velvet, he began looking for producers before working on anything else. Soon, the director was able to convince Fred Caruso to back this project.

Later, David and his team started looking for ideal filming locations in America. Since the story of Blue Velvet is set in and around the state of North Carolina, the director thought it would be a good idea to shoot the outdoor scenes of Blue Velvet around the same place.

Right after the filming locations in North Carolina were scouted by the crew, he asked them to commence shooting. The principal photography of Blue Velvet began in the third week of August 1985 and was completed before the end of December of the same year.

Considering the fact that the production members only had to shoot in and around the state of North Carolina, the shooting schedule was a bit long. But, David made sure to utilize the entire filming schedule properly and capture stunning visuals for this project.

When it came to choosing quality over time, David was known for selecting the former at the drop of a hat. So, after the shooting process of Blue Velvet was over by the third week of December 1985, the production members began working on the promotion of the movie.
