Where Was Bones Filmed? Let’s Know This Crime Series Closely!
The makers of Bones decided to keep filming in the same location more or less for 12 long years. Except for season 4, which was shot overseas in England. But apart from that, the majority of the filming took place in California, specifically around Los Angeles for the most part.
The principal photography of the first season began in the middle of February 2005 and was completed in 3 months. Then filming of every other season which followed, up until 2017 was also finished in two and a half or three months. A major lawsuit was filed against the show, for some reason which delayed the filming schedule a bit. However, the skilled lawyers appointed by the production unit later sorted the entire matter outside of court.
Now, let’s discuss in-depth, where was Bones filmed and find out more about the specific shooting sites.
Los Angeles, California
The story of Bones is set in the capital of Washington in the District of Columbia, however, the entire filming for the majority of the seasons took place in California. The FBI headquarters shown in the series was actually filmed inside a set constructed by the crew.
The production unit booked Stage 9 of 20th Century Fox Studios. This iconic studio located at 10201 Pico Blvd, Century City is often used by filmmakers from all around the globe to recreate exhilarating sequences. A number of famous movies and series were filmed here, such as NYPD Blue, Batman, River of No Return, The Fly, Peyton Place and Adventures in Paradise.
Coming back to Bones, the interior sequence of the FBI headquarters, where we see the character of Seeley Booth, deeply solving criminal cases, was filmed inside a make-believe set, as I have mentioned above. The crew took a considerable amount of time to construct the set during the filming of the first season. However, for filming the sequences of the other seasons, the unit members only made minor adjustments to the existing setting, as per the demand of the script.
Other filming locations in California consisted of Downtown Los Angeles and Daytona Beach. Several outdoor shots were filmed around these places. Although to depict the fictional Jefferson Institute which is located in Washington in the series, the crew took exterior shots of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This well-preserved museum, located at 900 Exposition Boulevard in Los Angeles was the prime location, where the crew extensively captured the outdoor shots.
London | England
To capture the outdoor sequences for season 4 of Bones, the crew traveled overseas to the British capital of London. As the entire premise of the fourth season was set in England, the unit decided to shoot on location. Several outdoor shots were filmed just outside of Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London. Reportedly, the crew also traveled to the city of Oxford, to capture some pivotal sequences depicting a crime scene in Britain.
Now, if you’re planning to visit England this Christmas, then I’d recommend you to look into Tower Bridge, The British Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, The National Gallery and Big Ben. These famous places are often visited by tourists from different parts of the world during the holidays and other festivals.
