Poland

All of the filming for the series has been done in Poland. To keep the locations authentic, the showrunners made sure the show in its entirety was filmed in Poland. Filming of High Water proved to be an arduous task, especially because the principal photography of the show began in mid-2021. During that time, the world, and especially Europe, was actually dealing with a global pandemic. 

Dolnoslaskie, Poland

Most of the show takes place in and around the region of Lower Silesian Voivodeship, located in Dolnoskaskie. A voivodeship in Poland is basically like a province, which has its own cities and its own capital. Producers of High Water did the majority of their filming in and around Wroclaw, the capital of the voivodeship. Thus this region served as one of the primary locations for filming.

Since the show follows life in flood-affected cities and villages, other neighboring regions were also used. The city of Legnica and the village of Srebrna Gora are heavily featured in High Water. Especially during the start of the show, as the scene is set, we see a picturesque-looking city and village equally devastated. 

Besides the filming in the major cities of Donoslaskie, some of the filmings for High Water were also done in the villages of Byczeń and Osina Wielka. The regions fall in a separate voivodeship of Lower Silesian, a region South West of Poland. 

Mazowieckie, Poland

After filming High Water in the south of Poland, production moved up north and east. Some areas like Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, also feature in the series. Since the city is home to all the bureaucracy and government officials, the filming of the political offices was done here.

Besides the central cities and the regions in and around Warsaw, High Water filming locations include Mazowieckie voivodeship or the province of Poland. The centrally located province is comprised of a lot of major cities that feature in the show. 

As we follow the devastation caused by the flood, it was very important to make sure the cities were not shown as modern. Since the events took place in 1977, the region had to be retouched a bit post-production in order to make it look a bit pre-21st century!

Lastly, one of the important regions shown in the series is the Nysa, located in Nysa County. The region is situated just beside the Eastern Neisse river, which makes it an ideal spot for filming!
