Lou agrees to help her and they go into the forest searching for her daughter but are soon hit by a storm. Lou is originally set in Orcas Islands, Washington State, but the actual filming of the movie took place in Vancouver, British Columbia. The filming of the movie was scheduled to start in May 2020 but due to the pandemic, it was delayed to June 2021 and ended in August 2021. 

If we talk about the specific locations, the movie’s outdoor scenes were filmed mostly in Ucluelet, which is a small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This mainland area is mostly covered with dense forests, picturesque mountains and waterways that make this location perfect for filming a survival action thriller like Lou. Ucluelet is known to be the world’s most pristine coastline as well.

A scene where Lou is seen driving the pick up car was filmed in Ittatsoo, which lies on the other side of the Ucluelet Peninsula. The hardware store that is shown in the movie is Pioneer Boatworks fishing store at 166 Fraser Lane, Ucluelet. The bank where Lou withdraws the cash before writing a letter to the neighbor Hannah is the historic The crow’s nest store. 

The production unit also filmed some scenes at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve located in North Vancouver known for hiking trails, forests and waterways. The Eagle Point beach which was shown in various scenes in the movie is actually fictional. The real location is called Wya Point, an area just outside Ucluelet. Movies like Man Of Steel and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn were also filmed here.

Some of the scenes of the movie and the CGI work in the movie were done at Vancouver Studios in Canada. Vancouver Film Studios is uniquely designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding film, television, and commercial projects and has hosted more than 100 productions, including award-winning Hollywood blockbusters.
