Midway through the film, Angela, while acting as a medium, gets a vision of the unholy entity, and gets scared to death. She confesses about the vision to her brother, but Jackson readily brushes it off, declaring that it’s nothing but hallucination.
Soon after, the members of the fake paranormal research team start getting killed, one by one. And Jackson starts to lose his mind! As he gets forced to believe in the existence of evil spirits. Eventually the spirit possess the body of Mrs. Greene and she brutally hacks Jackson to death. Angela manages to escape from the haunted house, and later gets admitted to the hospital.
The credits roll, as Angela explains the scenarios to her grandfather, and gets terrified to find the same evil entity, lurking in the corner! Where Was Malevolent Filmed? Let’s Know This Horror Film Closely!!
Director Olaf de Fleur Johannesson, and the production unit heads, initially wanted to shoot Malevolent in Britain. But due to a lack of funds, the project had to be paused for a year! However, after acquiring the adequate amount of finances to kick start the filming process, director Olaf decided to explore other filming sites. Soon the production unit dispatched a specialized team to scout for possible shooting sites.
Eventually, Scotland was decided to be the perfect filming location for the film. Required changes were made to the script as well. The entire film was shot in parts of Ayrshire and Hunterston in Scotland. Meanwhile, you can also check out Dexter New Blood, Bird Box, and The End which are equally intriguing, if not more!
The principal photography began in April 2016 and was completed within one and a half months! The short filming schedule was due to the fact that the crew was not required to travel much! And most of the logistics, such as the costumes, lighting equipment, wide angle lens’ were pre-arranged and kept ready by the production unit.

Hunterston, Scotland
The production unit, reached the coastal town of Hunterston. Located near Ayrshire County, this place was deemed apt by the production unit to recreate the scenes of a cozy Scottish town during the ‘80s.
The production unit readily began filming the outdoor scenes of the coast and Nuclear Power Station, which is shown in the beginning of the film. Here are some films that you can watch, like The Batman, No Time to Die, and Braveheart which were also filmed here!
The crew then captured the exterior shots of a small house located in the suburbs of Hunterston, to recreate Jackson and Angela’s family home. The production crew had to make changes to the outer structure of the house to make it look like a vintage property.
The pivotal sequences of the movie were filmed in Hunterston House. The production unit had to arrange for special permission, from the Hunter family, for filming the historical property. Few other exterior shots of the Hunterston Castle were also taken.
Other Filming Locations
After completing the majority of the filming in Hunterston. The production crew then moved to the capital of Scotland to finish filming the rest of the sequences. The interior scenes that featured Mrs. Greene’s haunted house in the movie, was filmed inside a studio.
A special set was built by the production unit, and was later taken down, after the completion of filming. The final scene of the film where Angela is shown to find out about the existence of the evil entity inside the medical facility, was also filmed here! The production unit took more or less a week to complete the filming of the interior scenes!
