Important to mention that the team eventually decided to shoot the majority of the sequences around the city of Santa Clarita. The principal photography for the pilot seasons of Santa Clarita Diet began in the summer of 2017 and continued for one and a half months. The required shooting permissions were acquired in advance, which immensely helped the crew to stay on top of filming dates.

The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of a luxurious mansion located in one of the posh neighborhoods of Santa Clarita and captured the sequences of Sheila’s home.

Other important sequences depicting the first house that the power couple appears to sell were filmed outside of a house located at 27528 North Weeping Willow Drive. The interior sequences depicting Hammond’s family home in the show were also filmed inside the same property.

Additional sequences were captured in some other parts of Santa Clarita, such as the sequence depicting the Santa Clarita High School in the series, which was actually filmed inside a public school. The production members also had to take special filming permission from the authorities of the school before filming the interior sequences using one of the classrooms.

The scene where the female lead dies due to a tragic incident was captured near the same school, which was located at 19300 W. Nadal Street, Santa Clarita. 

Filming in Santa Clarita lasted for one month or so, after which the production members filmed the remaining interior sequences inside a studio in Los Angeles. The same studio was used to shoot the interior sequences of the other seasons of Santa Clarita Diet too.
