Apart from enjoying the success and fame of being a celebrated author, Wilson always wanted to make a movie. Thus during the initial stages of production, Wilson decided to make a gripping crime action film based on a fictional story that he wrote several years back.

But, even though Wison was certain about the premise of his film, he wasn’t particularly clear about the ideal setting. In order to select the perfect filming location for The River Thief, the director conferred with several other filmmakers in Hollywood.

As per reports, a few directors suggested Wilson film around the same place where the premise is set, while others advised him to explore other filming locations in America. Wilson decided to choose the latter option.

A few weeks later, the director formed a special team of 8 members and asked them to look around different locations in America, which had dense forests in the background. While this was going on, another team was looking for ideal filming locations in and around the urban jungle of America.

After a series of desperate attempts to find the perfect filming location for his movie, Wilson finally struck gold. The director of The River Thief eventually decided to film the majority of the sequences in and around the state of Idaho.

But later, Wilson also decided to include a select few locations in Washington in the final list. The principal photography commenced in the first week of July 2014 and continued for two months or so.

Luckily, the production members acquired the filming permissions several before the actual shooting began. This immensely helped the crew to stay on top of shooting dates. The filming schedule, in fact, remained unchanged till the last day of filming.

Let us now discuss in detail where was The River Thief filmed.

Washington | USA

Shooting commenced in the southeastern region of Washington. Specifically, several outdoor shots were filmed in and around Pullman, which is the largest city in Whitman County. The sequences which were captured here mainly depict the early life of the lead actor.

Other important outdoor scenes were shot in Clarkston. This city is an integral part of Asotin County, located in Lewiston’s western region. The sequences in the film depicting Diz’s first robbery were filmed inside a warehouse.

The director asked the production members to refrain from using any special lighting equipment while shooting. Wilson wanted to create a natural effect and make use of natural light.

After capturing these scenes, the production members moved to the next shooting location.

Idaho | USA

The second part of The River Thief was filmed in and around the state of Idaho. The scenes depicting Diz’s hideout were captured in the city of Lewiston, which is a county seat of Nez Perce County.
