XO Kitty is an American romantic series that recently premiered on Netflix. This amazing series has 10 episodes in the first season. In fact, all episodes were released together on the 18th of May on Netflix.

The basic premise of this Netflix original series was adapted from the All the Boys film series. However, there are certain elements in the story that makes the premise of this show way more interesting than the original film series.

The main story revolves around the character of Kitty, an American teenage girl known for her matchmaking skills. The story gets interesting when the female lead meets her boyfriend for the first time inside the same boarding school in South Korea where her mother used to study.

Where Was XO Kitty Filmed? Let’s Know This Romantic Drama Series Closely!

The story of XO Kitty is set in South Korea, unlike the actual film series. The basic premise of this show revolves around the character of an American girl who moves from America to South Korea to meet with her boyfriend.

So, apart from the initial episodes, the sequences of all other episodes were filmed in South Korea. Jenny Han came up with the idea for this show, and she wanted to keep things fair and simple.

Thus, instead of shooting all outdoor scenes in America, the creator thought it would be best to film in South Korea. So, after writing the script for this project, the creator traveled to South Korea to scout suitable filming locations in Seoul. 

Han’s previous research about ideal filming locations in Seoul came in handy. So, right after landing in South Korea, the production members and Han readily started the scouting process. Within a couple of weeks, the main filming locations in and around the city of Seoul were selected.

The principal photography of XO Kitty began in the final week of March 2022 and continued till the first week of June of the same year. Even though the production members only had to film 10 episodes, they still took more time than the makers anticipated.

Mainly because the laws and regulations in South Korea are very different from the ones in America, the production members had to first adjust to the social norms and other regulations before shooting the outdoor scenes in public areas.

By and large, there were no major issues during the course of the shooting. The production members were able to complete the shooting process after completing all the formalities and acquiring the shooting permits.

Seoul | South Korea

The city of Seoul is the capital of South Korea. Each year a number of tourists visit this beautiful and technologically advanced city. Apart from that, several Kdramas are shot in and around this city,

The first episode of XO Kitty where we see the female lead traveling to Seoul, was filmed outside of the airport. The production members had to take special shooting permission from the government before filming this particular sequence.

Other important scenes depicting the Korean Independent School of Seoul were shot inside a private school located in the same city. The production members used the same school to capture all sequences of “KISS”. 

Additional outdoor scenes of XO Kitty were filmed in the downtown area of Seoul. The scene where Kitty Song Covey goes out with her boyfriend Dae for a date was filmed inside of a restaurant. 

The production members didn’t make any changes to the restaurant, as it perfectly matched the look which the director wanted. Meanwhile, the sequences of the other episodes of XO Kitty were filmed on the outskirts of Seoul.

The production members selected a sparsely populated area to capture the sequences of the final episode of this amazing series.
