The majority of filmmakers around the world like to release cheerful and uplifting films during the holiday season. Which is basically done to captivate the audience through heart-warming stories and contribute towards making the overall festive mood even better.

However, the director of this film wanted to experiment with something different. But considering the commercial performance of Black Christmas, Bob’s experiment failed miserably. The audience didn’t appreciate the overall storyline of the movie.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this had a lot to do with the timing of the movie. But, surprisingly enough, the niche audience and critics who enjoy horror thriller films, liked the performance of the actors and the premise of Black Christmas.

Mainly, the film critics greatly appreciated Bob’s filming technique and the pacing of the story. Another thing that was widely acknowledged by the critics were the filming locations of Black Christmas.

The principal photography of Black Christmas began in the final week of March 1974 and continued till the second week of May. All throughout the entire shooting process, the majority of the outdoor scenes were captured in and around the city of Toronto.

Interestingly enough, the interior scenes of the movie were also filmed in Toronto, inside a well-equipped studio. As the production members had to shoot in and around the same city and didn’t have to travel much, a lot of time was saved.

Eventually, the filming crew was able to finish the shooting process of Black Christmas before time. After everything was done, the production members began working on the promotion of the film.
