So, to use the Focus mode on Instagram stories, follow the below-mentioned steps. However, before you start, just make sure that you’re using the latest version of Instagram, i.e., you don’t have any pending updates for Instagram. Check the same by going to the Google Play Store or the App Store. 

Once you’ve ensured that you’re using the latest version of Instagram, follow these steps:

  • Launch Instagram on your phone. 
  • Head over to the stories section. To do this, either tap on the plus icon situated at the bottom of the page and tap on the Story tab. Or, swipe right from your home page. 
  • When Camera opens, you’ll be at “Normal” by default. Slide over to “Focus” from the bottom of the screen. It will be situated in between the “Superzoom” and “Rewind” tabs.
  • Once you open the focus mode, set the camera in a way that it is angled towards the subject you’re trying to capture properly. Make sure that the subject and the phone are at appropriate distances from each other. 
  •  Once you’ve set the angle, tap on the round white icon to take a picture. If you want to take a video, tap and hold the round white icon to record. Release the button once done. 
  • After you’ve taken a picture or a video for your story, you can use filters to enhance whatever you’ve captured. To do so, tap on the glitter icon located at the top of the screen. Then, a wide range of filter options will appear at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through them to select one you like. 
  • You can also add GIFs and stickers to your story by tapping on the sticker icon located at the top of the screen. 
  • To share your thoughts about this story, tap anywhere on the screen and start typing. Or else, tap on the Aa icon. You also have the option to change the font style, color, and text alignment if you want to.
  • If you want to draw something on your story, tap on the three-dot icon located at the top of the page, use your finger as a stylus, and then draw something. You can change the marker style using the options given at the top of the page. You can change the thickness of the marker using the vertical slider on the left of the screen. 

However, please note that doing all of this– adding filters, text, GIFs and/ or stickers, drawing something is completely optional. Yes, adding/ doing all this makes your story more fun and interactive.

Turning off the Focus mode is really as simple as enabling it. All you have to do is to switch over to some other mode from there— in case you still want to capture something. This means you can slide over to Superzoom or simply back to normal mode. 

You can also exit the Story section altogether. Doing so will return you to the “Normal” mode by default. Then, when you check again, you will have returned to Normal mode. In case this doesn’t happen for some reason, try exiting the app and opening it again after a little while. Doing so will surely take you to the default mode. 

But, if even this doesn’t work, then it is likely that your Instagram app’s cache is the reason behind it. So, try clearing the app cache first. If you use an iOS device, then you don’t have the option to clear the cache. You will have to uninstall Instagram and then reinstall it.

  1. Heloo.. i have a problem when my front camera insta story is always on focus mode and i cant turn it off because i cant find the “swap” to zoom/superzoom/focus mode. There’s nothing on the bottom of my insta story page :(( the only available choice is post, story, reel and live.
