Go To The Reel

  • Open Instagram and locate the reel you want to create a remix with.

  • Once the reel opens on the screen, tap on the three-dot icon located at the bottom right of the screen. 
  • A menu will then show up on the screen. From the menu, select the Remix option located at the top. 
  • The reel will now open in a new editing screen. You will have several editing options to create the perfect reel remix. 

Choose A Layout

  • To add a video of your own, tap on the camera icon located at the top of the screen.
    • You will have four different layout options to add your video in. 
    • By default, you will have a green screen present. Tap on the green screen icon present in the vertical sidebar on the left to change. 
    • From there, you can choose to have your video in a side-by-side fashion with the video you’re remixing. Or, you can choose the two videos to be one below the other. Or, you can choose the video to be present as a small thumbnail anywhere on the screen. 

Add A Video/ Photo 

  • Now, when it comes to adding a video of your own, you can either record something on the spot or upload something from your gallery.
    • To record something right then, use the round reel button located at the bottom of the page. You can also choose to use a filter from the various options given on the screen before you start recording. 
    • To upload something already existing, select the gallery icon from the bottom left corner of the screen. Then, when your gallery opens, choose what you want to have.
      • You can have multiple pictures or a single picture. 
      • You can have a video the same length as the video you’re remixing. 
  • After you’ve selected what you want to have, give it a second or two to process and appear as one long, streamlined video. 

Add Some Music

  • Now, you can change the music of the reel if you want to. For this, tap on the music icon located at the top of the vertical sidebar on the left. Then:
    • You can search for music from Instagram’s music library by tapping in the search bar. 
    • You can select something from your Saved items. 
    • Or you can pick something from the “For you” and other sections as such. 
    • After you’ve selected the music you want, use the slider to adjust what section of music you want your reel to have. 
    • Once you’re done, tap on “Done,” located at the top right corner of the screen. 
    • Your reel will now have this music. 

Add Filter 

  • To add a filter to your video, select the glitter icon from the vertical sidebar. In doing so, a variety of filter options will appear at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through them to pick and choose something you like.

  • When the video appears on the screen the way you wanted it to, tap on the “Next” option located at the bottom right corner of the screen. 
  • Now, you can edit your reel a bit more using the editing options present on the screen. 
  • If you want to add some text to your reel, tap on the Aa icon located at the top right side of the screen and start typing. 
  • If you want to add a sticker or GIF to your reel, select the square sticker icon located next to the Aa icon. A menu will appear on the screen; select the GIF or sticker you want your reel to have. You also have the option to add a poll or a quiz.
    • If you can’t find a GIF you want in the menu itself, you can search for it using the search bar located at the top of the menu. 
  • To edit the length of your video, tap on the “Edit Video” option located at the bottom left of the screen. 

Share Your Reel 

  • Once you’re happy with the way your video looks, select the “Next” option in blue, located at the bottom right corner of your screen. 
  • Now, write a caption, tag people if you want to, and add topics, location, etc. 
  • When all this is done, select “Share,” located at the bottom of the screen in blue.
